The official PlayStation blog just posted an article about WipeOut's origins where the original creators talk about it. Sure it's basically a long-winded ad for Omega Collection, but it was interesting to read nonetheless. Especially how Mario Kart was involved.

Great reading, thanks for sharing it.
I should give the newer games in this franchise a second chance one of these days, I always felt the psp and ps3 games were highly inferior to 2097 and 3.

They are, xl,3 (us-jap-s.e in that order)and 64 are the peak of the series before the control got all borked to hell and dumbed down.
