Yeah, that trailer could've easily been one for any Fast & Furious game.

Read "Every NFS game besides Shift, Pro Street and Hot Pursuit since NFSU". Hell, Pro Street isn't too far off from Fast & Furious.

I'll wait to see how it is. If it's less bland than The Crew I'll probably play it.

This looks a lot like The Crew:

Image

This sounds a lot like The Crew's 'spec' system:

Car Classes
Owned vehicles can be modified towards one of five different car classes, and can specialise in specific mission types;

Race - High speed racing
Off-road - Designed to go cross country
Drift - Sideways powersliding
Drag - A quarter-mile in under 10 seconds
Runner - Stealth, dodging cops, and threading through traffic

With The Crew 2 also gearing up for a 2017 release*, it could be an interesting battle.

However, I hope they don't end up cancelling each other out like Split/Second and Blur. We don't have many active non-sim racing franchises as it is!

*it seems it is coming 'in the next year,' so I guess we will have to wait and see at E3 whether than means later this year or early 2018. I wonder if Payback will scare Ubisoft into delaying The Crew 2 until next year...

Given how the Drag spec is just "a quarter mile in less than 10 seconds" I wonder how viable a stock Dodge Demon would be xD

First trailer with actual gameplay. Looks to be very much a mission-based affair, with the objectives and the character you're playing as even changing mid-mission. And of course short cutscenes at dramatic plot points.

Chase HQ has certainly come a long way.

This now reminds me of the Crash Time games, except those games (quite appropriately) didn't take themselves so seriously. I happily stuck with them because they were fun and I actually came to enjoy the silly tongue-in-cheek nonsense of the stories. I hope this game will let you skip the cutscenes because I am sure the racing and missions will be great nonetheless.
