If I could do that laptime consistently that'd already bring me to under three minutes. And I overtook FIL ;)

I've been having an awful time of it today but at least I've been able to improve my best overall time. I'll never be a competition level player and I doubt I'll be able to overtake you Ghegs but I'm at least getting faster and more consistent. I'm now ranked #114.

Update from last week, took me a while to post because I've been travelling a lot. One more trip this weekend and then things should settle down for a bit, still haven't had an opportunity to get video.

This was a long time coming. I didn't play the game for a while, then I had to get new HD capture equipment because my old one just died, then when I returned to it I was completely useless and hit every wall possible for a while, but today was a good day.

#46 on the Global Leaderboards! Guess my next goal is getting to Top 40. And I haven't been able to replicate my 42:xx laptime yet, so that too.

I think it's time for you to start working on learning the ratchet steer technique for the final corner, you're still taking it very conservatively. There's a lot of time to pick up there, if you can work out the 4-2-4 line there you'll be running consistent 42s without any issue at all!

Yeah, the last corner is where my approach has changed the most over time. I used to start it more to the right and that worked for me for a while, but I just couldn't hit it correct today so I went all the way to the left for this set of runs, and it worked this well at least. But yeah, improvement is needed there. Still, I'm happy I've made it this far at least!

Gonna have to read your explanation about the ratchet tech again and keep trying out different things...

Even if I'm not into HD consoles (my latest console is a GameCube), I have to say this Daytona USA HD looks very interesting, especially with this world-leaderboard-feature included. Would you say it deserves an XBox 360 or a PS3 to be bought and if so, which one would you recommend?

Both Xbox 360 and PS3 can be had pretty cheaply now, especially used, so I might learn towards saying yes, it is that great of a game. I don't think there are any differences between the two versions, so which ever console and their respective library appeals to you the most.

It might be worth noting that the Xbox 360 only has one Force Feedback-enabled wheel available (there are other wheels for it, but they only have rumble support), while the PS3 has many, many more options. When I was looking for a wheel for the 360, I considered the option of just buying a PS3 so I could use my existing PC wheel with it. Would've saved me some space...

Thanks, Ghegs.
By the way, are rankings divided into zones (NTSC, PAL) or are all times comparable, whichever region of the world you live in?
Furthermore, are the rankings reliable or are there known ways of cheating?

The rankings aren't divided, they're indeed Global Leaderboards. I don't know what would happen if you forced to game to run in 50hz (you might need to connect it to a SD television for the console to even allow it, I'm not sure). It's possible the game won't even start unless it's ran at 60hz. It's my understanding that a TV needs to support 60hz to be classified as HD Ready or Full HD compatible. NTSC and PAL were more pressing issues back in analog days, with HD digital signals they're not really a problem anymore, so I don't think there's much of an issue here.

As for cheating, I think it depends on the game. I remember seeing some obviously cheated times in another game, Sega Rally Online Arcade, but there's nothing like that in Daytona. The best time for Advanced there is 2:54, two seconds off from TDX's time. So yes, for Daytona USA I'd say they are reliable. You can even download the replays off the top 10 times to check them yourself.

ohhh, a topic of Daytona USA :)
i love this game !
Is it possible to play to the PC version (daytona USA Deluxe) ?
And on Arcade, can i play with Mame for challenges you ?

On Mame, there's different versions, i guess the Arcade version is the REV A

thank you :P

After a try, the game is not working on Mame for the moment... :(

Everything is up to date. Looks like i'm out of the running now. I consider myself a good casual player but I know when I'm outclassed.

Akizan, you can use an emulator if you like. Not sure how well it works in MAME but I know it runs well in the Nebula model 2 emulator, that seems to be what most people use.

The PC version is probably fine, unless anyone has any particular objections? I want to run a fair table but I'm not pretending it's anything close to the definitive rankings.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, the PC version is just too different. That post even understates it, I tried it again a few days ago now that I've managed to hit sub-3 minutes in Advanced and the handling in Daytona USA Deluxe feels almost like that of a different's game's. I don't think it's possible to reach the same times in it as you can in Arcade/XBLA version.

thank you !
i tried the nebula model 2 emulator and it works fine.
Now i realize how technical is this game o.O
amazing !! but i think i really need a steering wheel because with game pad, it's pretty hard !

so did everyone just quit playing? I'm still hitting the arcade most days after work. I feel like I've plateaued hard on Advanced so I've been starting to just poke at Expert a little bit. Hard to stay motivated when I'm completely out of ideas on how to improve.

I still play occasionally and I even streamed the game last weekend, but I haven't been able to improve my times. I still do need to start learning the best techs for final corner on Advance, so there's that left.

I did go for a run at Expert too. It was terrifying. With the way the game works you have to learn it one corner at a time.

The table is up to date.

I've not been playing for a while because I've wanted to play other things and I think I've probably hit my limit for the Advanced course.
