Battle Gear 2: Fastest in Akina

It's the infamous Akina Downhill, or as it's known in the PAL port Tokyo Road Race "Course 7". You can use either Battle Gear 2 (JPN) or Tokyo Road Race (PAL), but in the latter's case, please use 60hz mode.

For comparison, you can check the official records here. Choose Battle Gear 2, Professional track and the class you want. For an example of WR class driving, here's a video of a player running the track in the A-class 86 Mecha car.

Format for submissions:

And to get us started...

C-class
Ghegs & 3:43:108 & 86 Trueno & AT

Not a very impressive time to be sure, the cars behave differently enough from BG3 that I need to learn driving in BG2 from scratch. At least the course is familiar, so I got that going for me.

Went for a ride in Integra-R DC2, my faithful vehicle of choice from Battle Gear 3, and it was tons of fun. Decided it was appropriate to segregate the classes, so now every class has its own table.

I still need to unlock this ><

They still have the rankings archived for all Battle Gears thank god: http://ranking.battlegear.net/index.html

Now someone needs to make sense of this to figure out the WR and car type. :P

Finally got round to unlocking this track. My Initial D experience definitely helps with knowing this map. :P

Still crashing alot and going way too slow on some sections. It's pretty hard to control with a pad - this car is so fun to drive tho lol.

I went and gave some of the other C-class cars a run. 86 Levin drifts like a mofo, while 111 Levin isn't nearly as drift-happy but the handling feels superb. MR-S is another very drifty one and I got this with it:

Need to test out non-Toyota cars too...

I fumbled some early corners and didn't do a couple quite as well I hoped, so I think I can still squeeze out a sub-3:28 time...after that it's going to get problematic.

Decided to give the Trueno a go again, and it was well worth it. I immediately noticed it accelerates to the first corner a bit faster than the Levin, and after a while...

C-class
Ghegs & 3:27:501 & 86 Trueno & AT

#1 by a hair! I have the whole run recorded, but I can still do a bit better. I bumped the railing two times in the latter half of the course and in subsequent runs I've made it to the first checkpoint with a .3 better time, so I should be able to get sub-3:27.

And here we go!

C-class
Ghegs & 3:26:871 & 86 Trueno & AT

The last section (=everything from the last hairpin onwards) could be a bit faster, but overall I'm very happy with this run. Happy enough to make a video out of it! After the time attack itself there's the replay footage which shows the wheel/pedal work, so hopefully people can learn from this a bit.

There's still plenty to improve, the WR is 3:18 after all. But where that comes from, I have no idea...

Looks like a great run man, was this using the GT Force? There was a brand new one going for cheap on eBay, but the auction was pulled :(

Can't wait to try this out! Which do you prefer playing, BG2 or 3?

Yep, this was with GT Force.

It's difficult to choose between the two games. 3 looks better and has more cars to choose from, but 2 has more tracks and the UI is a tad better in my opinion. At the moment I'd say I prefer 2 mostly because I've been playing it a lot recently, but as long as I can compare my times against somebody I think I'll be perfectly happy with either one.

Still alot of room to push this.. was a very disappointing run. I will need to get a new pad before I continue playing this as my one is busted. :(

Been playing the game pretty much every day for ~30 minutes or so. Still much to improve, my best first checkpoint time is almost exactly a second faster than what I did here.

I surprised myself by being able to shave off most of that second so quickly. A couple of tiny bumps against the railings cost me a little time.

And I figured out a way to make a cool video about these things, so here's this run.

Unlocked 7 in TRR, but clearing 6 seems too close for me now to put it aside. No 7 time from me then... yet. DualShock 2 being the controller, don't expect rapid progress of me, but I'm working on it.

Looking forward to seeing you in Akina! I actually found Course 6 to be the more difficult one. The first half lacks personality so to speak, many of the corners are similar to one another so it's tough to remember exactly where you're at, and then the latter half has that muddy road requiring a switch to lines and how you approach the corners.

But if you want to start a TA thread for that, I'd probably still participate.

Skipped Course 6 (making biggest progress with Honda Civic felt a touch depressing) and here's my C-class time from Akina:

Class-C
SamsungMinen - 3' 44'' 450 - Miata 1.8 - AT

(Call it "MX-5 1.8" if you prefer so.)

Took me a long time to get there and I was planning to go on vacation afterwards, but if buddy of mine (car-head of sorts) pays a visit, he might give me incentive to improve my times sooner than expected.
Found the experience gained with MX-5 1.6, then 1.8 quite portable to Trueno, but at the end of the day 1.8 was just what doctor ordered.

Still plenty of room for improvement left with just a humble controller. That course 6 clear lies within my grasp now (not planning to labour on the latter much harder than I already have, though - Honda Civic keeps working best for me there, leaving sour taste).
