Oh come on at least start using MT if you're going to be a contender :P

And you may want double check your latest entry ;)

Very nice time, this one will push me. I'd ask if you have any little tricks or pointers but I have a feeling our approaches are very different between FF and FR.

lol, fixed.
I use Takumi's gutter trick to take some corners at high speed.
AT is always a disadvantage, not an advantage. MT is not my thing but I'll give it a try.

In this game I'd say AT is only really a disadvantage in RWD cars, it's probably close to even if you're running grip.

I've been using the gutter run as well, it can be pretty difficult to not tap the wall. Your steering has to be timed just right to catch some of them too.

I'm curious what your exit speeds are on the consecutive hairpins.

deca & 3:27:997 & AP1 & MT

Sector times:
Checkpoint 1 - 0:40:119
Checkpoint 2 - 1:18:915
Checkpoint 3 - 1:56:827
Checkpoint 4 - 2:32:361
Checkpoint 5 - 3:00:617

OK that was tough. I had a small breakthrough and my consistency is also improving. I'm occasionally hitting sections so fast it's surprising me, I feel like I'm starting to see what Takumi (or maybe I should say God Arm) experiences on the downhill :P

KAI & 3:26:957 & DC2 & AT

Sector times:
Checkpoint 1 - 0:40:720
Checkpoint 2 - 1:29:491
Checkpoint 3 - 1:57:096
Checkpoint 4 - 2:32:991
Checkpoint 5 - 3:00:723

This is getting harder and harder. I'll go after the 3:25 mark.
I've tried using MT but there's no use, I suck.

This is getting annoying, you've never been faster than me on anything but the very end section of the track. The few runs I did with your car gave me noticeably higher exit speeds on those corners despite me not being able to do anything with it elsewhere, so I'm starting to feel like your machine has a bit of an edge.

I'm guessing your checkpoint 2 time was actually a 1:19:491, because I have a hard time believing you made up a 10 second deficit ;)

I know I can go a bit faster but I'm running out of places to shave off time, I feel like we're operating on roughly the same skill level here and our cars' strengths are showing through. Maybe we should start uploading replays.

It's a shame we can't race online, I could see things being pretty interesting at this point!

Please do. I just went for a run or six on Akina and couldn't even beat my old time. I really have no idea how I'm supposed to play the game. It's like I'm not getting some extremely basic, fundamental aspect of it.

I'll try to get mine up tonight, but it'll have to be another iphone recording. Still, it comes out well enough to see what's going on.

I can't guarantee it's how useful it'll be to you though, since I seem to be the only person still running an FR haha.

Yep, my section 2 time was 1:19:491. Here's the pic
The last section has a lot of tricks, those gutters are awesome.

Well a rear wheel drive car is going to be drifting whereas a front wheel drive is going to grip and utilize some ebrake turns. Optimal corner entry will be very different between both of them, the FR can use power to bring the back end around but doing so in the FF would result in understeer and put you into the outside wall.

FR approach on a touge course is mostly about inducing and controlling oversteer where the FF focuses on avoiding understeer.

KAI:

I'm definitely interested to see your lines in the final section, it's certainly possible you're using some tricks I'm unaware of. I'm using the gutter on the shallower right hand corner but haven't seen any other places to make excessive use of it.

That first right hander after the long straight is probably my weakest corner on the whole course, I may have more time to pick up there than I realize. Maybe we should start working together to see how far we can push this thing ;)

I'm really curious what the top times look like for this game, I'm not really sure where to look though. There has to be some Japanese site with a leaderboard somewhere, right?

Actually they aren't! That's just a page prompting you to select search criteria from the drop down menus up top.

The records are...fast, haha.

Replay uploaded here. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help out.

And yeah, I was pleasantly surprised to see that as well. Guess we have a lot of work to do

Now if I can just get my hands on some Japanese replays...

Fastest in Akina!

Ghegs & 3:26:348 & DC2 & AT

Checkpoint 1 - 0:40:927
Checkpoint 2 - 1:19:375
Checkpoint 3 - 1:56:360
Checkpoint 4 - 2:31:605
Checkpoint 5 - 2:59:576

Video here!

I should be able to push it down to 3:25, if I can just figure out how to consistently hit low 0:40's for the first checkpoint.

Rude.

Good job man! Do you feel that AT is giving you an edge or is it just that you don't see any advantage to MT? I never feel right if I'm not shifting in a racing game haha.

Edit: Goddamn wow, I just watched your replay. I actually see a few places where you could pick up a lot more time on top of that, I'm confident you can break into the 3'24s. Your first checkpoint is actually fairly strong, you should focus on your lines from the sequential hairpins through the end of the track. There are a couple corners in the high speed section you can take even faster if you stay inside and hit the gutter. That combined with correcting the wall taps should give you a pretty scary time.

I think if AT gives me any advantage, it's simply that I don't have to worry about shifting points and can just focus on lines, acceleration and braking. I'm fairly certain MT is needed for WR times, though I can't really back that up with anything yet.

Hey guys, I haven't posted here in a while. I finally found where my BG3 disk was and booted up PCSX2.

3'25"760 AP1 MT

I feel there's still a lot of room for improvement, I hit so many walls+I completely bombed the RHOD and cp1. Theory 3'23"6xx

Edit: MT is important because certain corners you want to over-rev the engine so you don't lose speed in top gear. This is especially applicable for A and S class cars.

3'23"691 AP1 MT

Theory came true just barely, my CP1 was slow. I've hit 39"8xx in cp1, I think 3'23"3xx is very viable.

Alright, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuJJv6O8_A4&t=0m21s

I didn't edit it or anything, so you have to skip past me messing with OBS haha. CP1, the 5 hairpins and the last CP definitely need the most work.
