Ridge Racer Revolution [PS1] Time Trial

Postby null1024 » Sat Oct 27, 2012 12:03 am

I'll maintain this thread, I love this game enough to.

Ridge Racer Revolution is the excellent followup to the original Ridge Racer. Use the NTSC version please, I don't know if the PAL version compares properly.

Time Trial only, Free Run has unlimited laps and adjustable speedclass, and it's too much of a mess to deal with for me, if someone else wants to do something with the other modes, make another thread.
Best lap isn't necessary to put in post, but recommended.

Submission format:
Name, total time, best lap [if you don't have it, just put N/A], car, transmission, system [what did you play it on, PS1, PS2, pSX, ePSXe, etc], controller [eg, wheel, neGcon, d-pad, etc], course [novice/intermediate/expert].

System is there just in case an emulator ends up having odd behavior that results in different times [I know that some lesser PS1 emulators mess up with Wipeout 3's physics, resulting in quite different times, it could possibly happen with this game]. AFAIK, pSX and ePSXe should be fine.

For example:
Code: Select all
null1024 & 3'10'511 & 1:02:174 & RT Ryukyu & AT & PSP & d-pad
Please do it like this so I don't have to spend ages reformatting submissions...

Nice, I'll have to pick the game up. The early Ridge Racers are very "pure" in their arcadeyness and I just love that.

Hey, how'd you get this running on a PSP? PM me if the details are naughty.

Sent a PM. Nothing particularly naughty, but I'd feel better than a public post.

Also, just beat my last time quite a bit, not amazing [made a few mistakes, and this car isn't the best in terms of speed, but I'm doing pretty good].

Was working on a Novice course time earlier, just posted. Was also doing a few goes at Expert, but that course is just annoying as hell, especially right before the end. Also, drifting at Expert speeds feels weird as hell and the course is set during blackest night for the most part, which adds insult to injury. Ah well.

Alright, started working on Novice Time Trial. I'm playing the NTSC-J version.

Just grabbed a quick camera shot of the screen, I did record this run but since I can improve on it, I don't want to release a video just yet.

Christ, that's impressive. I really need to work at my time now, since I have some competition to go against! :D

Played a bit more:

That jump-into-drift is a really killer corner. I should be able to do sub-2:30.

Yeah, I lose so much time about there, it's really painful.

I could do better, I'm mostly posting this to get interest back in this.

Also, it would be best if you used a file that you didn't have 3 car Time Trial on [so, just hold l1+r1+down+triangle+select during the Galaga 88 game [unless you're cool enough to kill everything the proper way, 8-) ], and fire off some random shots before that [to prevent buggy mode from activating] to unlock all the cars, and save a new file], I forgot about that when starting the thread.

Still lots of little bumps. I actually just noticed the Intermediate course is called Advanced in the Japanese release, which is what I'm playing.

How come? How's this different from playing my normal save file with most stuff already unlocked? What's this buggy mode?

With the Extra courses open, time trial becomes 3 car, instead of the usual 2. Buggy mode changes the cars into little buggys and changes handling [it doesn't keep with a save, so you can reset the system and it will disable].

fastest I've been able to get so far, might be able to do sub-50s laps if I'm really really careful
