I mean, It's kind of cheesy to ask for tips in a competition thread, but I have NEVER played RR asides from RR64.

In Ridge Racer you generally don't do any fancy gear shifting, the classic RR way of starting a drift is just letting go of the accelerator, turning into a corner, and hitting the accelerator again. This works in every RR game I've ever played. Which doesn't include RR64, come to think of it. Braking to drift also works, but you'll just lose more speed doing it that way.

The PSP games tweak the formula a wee bit by introducing the Mild, Standard, and Dynamic drifting models. Dynamic is the one to use for time attacking, because it allows you to start a drift by just steering into a corner hard enough. It can be a bit hard to use, especially if one is accustomed to the normal RR drifts I described above, but it is the most efficient way to drift in the PSP games because you lose the least amount of speed with it.

Yep. RR64 DEFINITELY doesn't implement that xD
Thanks for the info, will try next week when my exams are over.

Moniker's real life is keeping him busy so he asked if he could pass the thread to someone else. KAI was kind enough to take over, so he'll be maintaining the tables from here on.

And with that said...

My videos so far. I make a few little mistakes, so the times can certainly be improved.

Midtown Expressway - 2:27.679

Downtown Rave City - 3:19.250

Now to tackle Greenpeak Highlands and Silvercreek Dam...

So this is a quick run I just made on Downtown Rave City. Damn there is time to improve.

Osaka & 3:42.680 & Bacura Raggio Type-S & DYN & AT & RR2

Fun Note: That time throws an avg speed of 299.999 km/h

(I can give pic if needed)

Yep. There was time to improve. Learning to drive the Class 6 cars also helps, and damn it's fun to do it right (kinda).

Downtown Rave City:
Osaka & 3:28.286 & Bakutotsu Raggio Type-R & DYN & AT & RR2

Once again, if needed, I can provide pic.

Finally approaching ~50 second laps, but my first lap was pretty bad at ~54s.

It's hard to consistently do steering-only drifts. If I could, I could shave off quite a bit of time per-lap, and not have my middle lap be terrible.

Seaside Route 765
null1024 & 2:28:582 & Druaga Raggio Type-Z & DYN & AT & RR2
We should add the first two Ridge Racer courses to the ranking. Should boost interest slightly.

Ridge City Highway

Preliminary as hell.

Excellent!

Seaside Route 765
null1024 & 2:19:799 & Druaga Raggio Type-Z & DYN & AT & RR2

Quite a bit better than my last time, and this still could be improved.
That bleeding corner right before and after the second straightaway makes me want to kick a puppy. I've screwed too many runs up by hitting the back of the car there. There's a little bit of gray that becomes part of a wall, and I'll drift around the corner... slam! And so, all my speed disappears. I seem to do it more Seaside Route 765 than Ridge City Highway, even though the corner is identical on both tracks...

I absolutely love the original Ridge Racer track, it just has everything needed. And it's kind of tricky to run with a DYN car, too. It's very tempting to just drift through the hairpin by letting go of the accelerator for a moment, but it seems if you start the drift way, way early you can manage without it.

Seaside Route 765
Ghegs & 2:20:464 & Druaga Raggio Type-Z & DYN & AT & RR2

I think this could be pushed to at least 2:15, my nitro usage was all over the place.

KAI, your Downtown Rave City time is great! You must have a better nitro tactic there than me.

Thanks. You know, I've been trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying , but I can't beat your Midtown Expressway record.

So since I have taken this game up again, I decided to try a time.

Midtown Expressway
Osaka & 2:32.660 & Druaga Raggio Type-Z & DYN & AT & RR2

And now seriously, driving sub-49 laps here is HARD.

Say, should I take over and start a new thread? This hasn't gotten updated in a while.

although, I don't have any newer times than what I've posted -- been playing on and off and am brickwalling a bit :?

What a rollercoaster of a track, it's really easy to mess it up completely. Last lap was pretty bad , so lots of room to improve.

Minor improvement, if i'd stop screwing myself up after getting decent first lap, i could shave off a second or two, this is what i like about this game the most, it always feels like you can improve, it never feels hopeless.
