Initial D: Special Stage

It's been a while but I've found myself playing Initial D again. I've been going back and forth with a friend for a bit and figured I'd just make a thread where times could be posted and open it up to anybody that's interested.

The focus will be on full tuned cars, but if you manage to post a competitive time with an undertuned car by all means feel free to share! All courses (uphill, downhill, dry and wet) are fair game. Post whatever you've got and help motivate everyone to keep improving!

Just like with the Battle Gear 3 thread, I encourage you to provide sector times in your submission. They won't be tracked in the tables but should be interesting for everyone participating. Also, I'm not worried about it starting out but as times get faster and competition heats up I'd like to see screenshots for new records. I've imported the times from the Akina thread to start things off.

Please provide submissions in the following format:
Name & Time & Car & Transmission

We were going back and forth on Akagi last night and BUDLY asked if I could upload my replay, so here it is:

There are still a lot of mistakes here but I think I've pretty much found the line.

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've played this game. Here are a few times from a quick session.

Akagi DHD Sean 2'24'627 DC2 MT
Akina DHD Sean 3'02'993 DC2 MT
Iro DHD Sean 2'48'503 DC2 MT
Shomaru OBD Sean 3'23'532 DC2 MT
Usui CW Sean 2'56'859 DC2 MT (DC2 sucks for this course. Where is my Sil80 at?!!!! Lol)

Not horrible for a half hour. Hope to lower those tonight.

Woo finally some more activity in here. I'm assuming your Shomaru time is supposed to be a 3 instead of a 2 since it's currently like 25 seconds under the WR haha.

Nice work on Iro! I've been working on that one a lot and you killed me immediately :p

Yeah that should have been a 3'23 on Sho. Did you want me to create new post when I update my times or just edit that first post I made? Thanks about Iro but then again the DC2 was made for it plus my jumps were pretty good. I'll have to try some other courses today or tomorrow.

You can just make a new post to make sure I don't miss it.

I still don't really feel like I'm doing the jumps well at all, just kinda flailing through and trying to stay in whatever gear is actually pulling haha

I usually take the jumps in 3rd. The key is to swing your back end around so that your going through the grass sideways. Meaning that your front end should be facing the road and not the guardrail. Sorry if that's not a very good explanation. Here is a video.

Code: Select all

First Jump starts at 1:43. He's using a wheel in the video but I can come pretty close to doing that with a controller.

DC2 Has about 400,000 points. I absolutely smashed my Shomaru time 3'16"953.

Man I was all happy until I saw this. Ridiculous

Ah I remember that vid! I knew the player back in the day, he's from New York.

I've been playing this tonight but still getting used to controlling the car with the GT Force. Tuning my Cappuccino which is approaching 200k pts :)

Good to see this thread is getting some attention - tomorrow I will post up some times after a quick TA session.

What's your impression of the GT Force with this game? Could you give a little breakdown of how it feels and what you like or dislike about it?

The main issue I have with it is the difference in how much the wheel turns compared to the arcade version which I'm used to. It turns alot less so I find myself turning too much too early and scraping walls etc.

I am playing without Force Feedback also as I don't have the power adapter for it so I am not sure how much this affects the feeling.

Overall it's alot better than pad and once I am fully used to it I'm sure it will provide as much control as the arcade wheel so I highly recommend it. :)

Hey all. I haven't much time to play lately. I see my Iro time has been smashed. Props to spl. I was thinking we could do a challenge each week or month. Pick a course, direction, weather and see what we can do. I know some cars will naturally be better for some courses but hey it's all for fun so let's see how close we can come to each others times. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't mind doing that, I've been lazy on a lot of tracks and pretty much stick to Akagi on SS haha. I'm down for whatever will get competition going and be fun.

DC2 510,000 points. A few slightly lower times.

Akina DHD Sean 3'01"922 DC2 MT

I know I can do better. I just can't get one solid run. I either miss a gutter, screw up the S in the speed section, or just plain hit a wall.

Iro DHD Sean 2'47"327 DC2 MT

Almost a full second off of my previous time but still a second off the leader. Damn you Capp!!! Lol

Played for the first time in a while, been travelling and busy lately! Finally posted a Happo time at least. I was on pace to really improve my Akagi time but started spacing out and making dumb mistakes before I could put it all together.

Hey guys, this is pretty cool. I've been getting back into Special Stage lately, my PS2 laser died and I finally decided to go the HDD route. I've been running a lot of TAs, I'll post up my times once I get home.

Edit: alright here we go...

Usui CCW Dry 2'48"681 FD3S
Akagi DH Dry 2'19"561 FD3S
Akagi UH Dry 2'27"359 FD3S
Akina DH Dry 3"00"667 AE86T
Happo IB Dry 2'26"009 DC2 (this course is hell with controller lol)
Iro DH Dry 2'45"496 DC2
Enna DH Dry 2'27"723 AE86T

More to come...

Hey, I'd be down for some TA. I've been playing a lot of Initial D via DEMUL since card reader emulation became a thing. I have it for PS2 as well. Post some times and let's get this started.

Here's some new Special Stage times, I forgot how much harder this game is to control than Street Stage. All times were done with a DualShock2 d-pad.

Akagi DH Dry: gns64 & 2'18"838 & FD3S & MT
Theory 2'17"9xx I'm consistently hitting CP3 "5xx faster, its just a matter of running a clean CP1 and 2.

Akagi UH Dry: gns64 & 2'23"210 & FD3S & MT
I think I've hit my limit for this course, CP1 2 and 3 are too fast for me to ever beat again haha

Akina DH Dry: gns64 & 2'56'499 & AE86T & MT
Could be better... using the gutters without tapping the walls is very difficult.

Iroha DH Dry: gns64 & 2'44"484 & DC2 & MT
Theory 2'44"1xx, Once I get my DC2 to max tune (1mil+ points) I'll try again.

Enna DH Dry: gns64 & 2'18"323 & FD3S & MT
Really fun course, if I lowered my CP3 I think high 2'17 would be easy.

Post up some times people! It doesn't look like anyone has been into this lately, lets change that.

Hi all. I was going through some my old video game hardware and came across a few PS2 memory cards. Just for fun I went through them and if you can believe this I found my Initial D SS save and a bunch or replays from 2004. I imported the save to the PCSX2 emulator and started playing again. My question is is it fair to post those times now?

So I've decided to continue with the most recent save data. Is anyone else playing on the PCSX2 emulator? The game runs great except for Enna pass/rd. There is a graphical glitch that covers the screen. I was wondering if this is a settings issue or common across all versions of the emu.
