Any car class is acceptable. We can always split the tables by class afterwards if it looks like that's warranted. Those hill climb cars aren't always the most fun to drive.

To get the ball rolling. My favorite car in the game, so far, is the Subaru Impreza Hill Climb, so I'm using that here even if it is only a lowly Expert-class vehicle. But it's still faster than what the AI usually gets on the course with Unlimited-class cars.

I deleted all my track records for this course before starting the TA. Very handy feature, I can just store my records here if we do this with multiple classes.

First time i think is fairly decent although i'm sure i'll be proved wrong, the other 2 were less than 5 runs each to just get a time up for people to aim for. There are some deeply frustrating aspects in this games physics though like how out of relation hitting even tiny objects will catapult or stop your car dead but still a very fun game (not quite colin mcrae 2 fun though, hope we can do that to in the future). Tried a ton of cars but for some reason can only get a feel for the 405 and i used a short gear ratio on the first track.

Nice, edited your times in. Yeah, the Peugeot 405 is my favorite out of the Ultimate-class cars. The others feel too unwieldy.

If you want to TA Colin McRae 2, go ahead and make a thread for it. :) Somebody will surely join in sooner or later.

This game has some really stupid physics only coming to light since time attacking (1000kg car taps tiny metal railing gets flipped and spun out?), gone down in my ratings a lot tbh.

This game has some really stupid physics

The game is made by Dice, i haven't played it in a while, but i believe it's a lot like Battlefield 2 physics

Lol, it's just minor oddities i'm struggling to get to grips with. I'm probably to used to colin mcrae.

Yeah, it is kind of annoying when you're drifting through a corner at 100 km/h and your outside back tire just catches a banner or something, and that's enough to either straighten the car or spin it out out and ruin the whole run. Really feels like you're racing at the edge of a knife the whole time.

Will do in a bit if i can figure out where they store, you have to be very preemptive with your lines and i rarely use the brake instead let off the accel at the right distance so it leads into a corner at the right speed then accel out of it. To add based on the course just like in real life pikes peak you'll want either medium or short gear ratio, short will lose a tiny amount in the straights but gives you more accel out of corners and wheel spin ability to carve.

Edit: heres the ghost file for the first track https://www.dropbox.com/s/ra6ebbxwl23zgxc/Ghost?dl=0

i'm not sure if this is my fatest one or the one before it but either way it's decent. I have one for the second course also which i plan on grinding for improvement later.

Yeah man there's a feel to it, i'm remembering why i loved it before now i got to grips with it. I really like how it don't feel digital controls are a hindrance in anyway.

If I could hit my lines just right I might be able to break into the 01:34-01:35 territory, but it's tough going.

How you people do this with digital controls I can't fathom. Maybe I could get used to digital steering, but I use ~80% throttle in corners a lot, helps me in pointing the car into the right direction, with a bit less fear of spinning out, before fully hitting the accelerator again.

I haven't even started on the other two Vista Peak courses yet. It's difficult for me to let go of Base, when I know I can still do a little bit better.

The fastest validated time although i can't find video is 1.33.01 for vista peak base with second place being around my time so there's some time to play with. As for digital controls I treat the game like any memoriser and build strict plans based on memorising speeds and positions into corners etc throttle modulation through tapping and so on, this game actually controls really nice with dpad, I noticed colin mcrae 2 has an active speedrun community and the wr holders vids on youtube look like he's using digital pad for that to so it's definitely game dependent, outrun 2 is a great example of a game that is massively hindered by digital and needs a wheel to be competitive but this game just works with it. Anyways back to the grind.

The first run of the session was kind of mindblowing. I fumbled near the start but decided to play it to the end, I was 1,35 seconds behind at about the halfway point. Then I absolutely aced the long right corner, where you're exposed to the long drop off the hill on the left, I've never done it so well. It was just one smooth, continuous drift through it. I finished that run a mere .05 behind my best time. Afterwards I must've watched my recorded footage of that drift a dozen times.

Then the next 20 runs I aborted within 15 seconds because I just couldn't do the first four corners correctly for the life of me.

There were still some corners I could improve on with this run, so I think I can achieve 1:34 or maybe even a high 1:33.

Of course, I'll put it up later today if I can't improve my time even further.

I'm actually curious to see what you'll think of it, since I do something a bit extreme on one of the very first corners, something very different from what I saw your ghost do. ;)

Just a bit tighter, though I still didn't break the 1:34 barrier.

And as promised, here's the ghost file.

In case somebody else finds this in the future and wants to use it, the file goes to %userprofile%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Microsoft\RalliSport Challenge\Ghost Cars\Hillclimb1Af\ (at least on Windows 8.1).
